MENTORING, SUPPORT & SACRED SPACES
Since
ancient times, women - in the family, in the workplace and among friends
- have exchanged personal experience and wisdom to support each other
and build leadership and community. We believe that one of the most
promising features of new technology is its potential to build communities,
strengthen communication among women and girls, and give voice to those
whose values and needs often go unheard in the public sphere. Using
electronic tools, Tech Up participants were able to give advice, seek
support and information, and develop relationships across region, race,
and generation. As a result many of our topics focused on mentorship
and support, and our electronic discussion served as its own "sacred
space" where participants could support each other. Click below to learn
how Tech Up's participating organizations provide mentorship and support,
and read excerpts from our discussion on how women and girls bring women's
ancient traditions of mentorship and support into the age of cyberspace.
